Call for Indigenous Artists

The Union Public Arts and Four Directions is working towards creating a mural on our campus.  We are currently searching for Indigenous Artists all across the United States.  Our goal for this mural is to: honor the Native lands which our university is currently on; amplify the voices of Indigenous students and faculty; serve as a symbol of Indigenous presence on campus; and to show prospective Native students and faculty that they have a home on our campus.

This mural will be hung in the Mizzou Student Center.  The space allotted for the mural is 15ft x 15ft (225 sq. ft.).  Due to size of the space, we have decided the mural will consist of nine 5ft x 5ft canvas as a grid within the space.  We have also come up with a basic idea of what we would like the mural to look like.  Our organization would like to see the state of Missouri "indigenized" with seven different sections representing the seven different tribes (Chickasaw, Illini, Ioway, Otoe, Missouria, Osage, and Quapaw) that lived in the are prior to being relocated.  We would also like to have back and gold, the colors of the University of Missouri, incorporated into the design.

But, if you believe you have an idea that can help contribute to our mission with the mural, please let us know by emailing us or putting it in your self-description.

The deadline for submission is March 8th, 2019.
