Student Artwork on Display in MU Student Center
Our newest exhibition, located on the first floor of the MU Student Center, highlights the creative output of Columbia-area college students. The works on display were recently included in the annual Art After Dark exhibition organized by the Museum Advisory Council of Students (MACS) and held at the MU Museum of Art and Archaeology.
The exhibition, "Selections from Art After Dark 2015" will be on display until May 1, 2015.
Art
After Dark:
An Annual Student Art Competition
Art After Dark is an annual event presented by
the Museum Advisory Council of Students (MACS). Students from each of the
Columbia colleges are invited to submit work to be exhibited during an evening
reception at the MU Museum of Art and Archaeology. The group receives an
average of 80-100 submissions, which are narrowed to the best 25-30 works. In
2015, MACS sought the assistance of a jury of arts professionals to assist in
selecting the top three entries. The artists selected by the jury received a
cash prize. A “People’s Choice” award
was given to the artwork selected by the Art
After Dark audience.
MACS and the
MU Museum of Art and Archaeology
The
Museum Advisory Council of Students, or MACS, is a recognized MU student
organization that is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are
interested in supporting the Museum of Art and Archaeology. Their mission
states:
“The
mission of our organization shall be to raise awareness of the art resources,
exhibitions and public programs available at the Museum of Art and Archaeology
to the students of MU. The purpose of MACS will be to represent students’
desires and needs for Museum-related event programming, to act as a liaison
between students and Museum staff, to evaluate the success of current MACS
programming, to assist in planning and carrying out MACS programming, and to
generate ideas for programs that will meet the needs of the students.”
The MU
Museum of Art and Archaeology houses a world-class collection and serves as
invaluable educational and cultural resource for the students of MU and the
Columbia community. It is located at Mizzou North.
